Tri-campus engagement

Hart House is for ALL U of T students – St. George, Scarborough and Mississauga – and we want to engage you in all activities. For students at UTSC and UTM, Hart House is here for you, and this is your opportunity to come have fun and learn about the various activities and spaces first hand!

For students at UTSC, please register here to secure your spot on the shuttle bus between Scarborough and St. George. Registration opens Friday, September 1 for U of T students. 

Please note that there is only one bus leaving Scarborough campus at *10:30AM*. Confirmation details will be in your registration receipt. 

For students at UTM, hop on the UTM Shuttle to Hart House between 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM to ensure you arrive on time for the activities! The Shuttle Bus schedule can be found here

Art Museum at the University of Toronto

11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Chat with Art Museum staff and find out about current exhibitions, public programs, and opportunities to get involved with the Art Museum! Grab freebies and participate in a raffle for a chance to win an Art Museum tote bag with our bestselling art publications.

Badminton

11:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Drop - in and join us to play badminton and have some fun! Learn more about the Fitness Centre and the daily programming that is hosted.

Board games

11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Hart House Student Farm Committee Plant Sale

11:00 am – 3:00 pm, or until plants run out!

Introduce some lush greenery into your life with a few, easy-to-grow houseplants at our first plant sale of the year! Whether you’re looking to start a plant collection in your new dorm room, or you want to re-boot your pre-pandemic office jungle, we’ve got some great options to help you create your calming green oasis.

Drop by the Hart House Farm Committee Plant Sale in the Hart House Quad and grab a few houseplants that are super easy to care for, look fabulous, and will help you feel good as well. The plants are reasonably priced from $5 and up.

Don't delay as the sale is first come, first serve, and quantities are limited. Debit and credit only.

Basketball shoot-out

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us in the Fitness Centre for a basketball shootout. In this FUn competition you will see how many can make from the free throw line in 30 seconds. The person with the most points at the end of the day will win a prize!

Drop-in and De-stress: Button Making Workshop

11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Join the Hart House Student Ambassadors for Get Crafty! Stop by and make a button for yourself.

In our Button Making Workshop, you will do DIY Buttons, get your craft-on by designing your own button with glitter, colouring, stickers and more. Button making machine and button supplies will be provided (Empty Button, color pencil/pens, stick glues etc.).

CIUT Booth

11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Say hello to the team from our in-House radio station! The folks behind the campus radio station CIUT-FM will be set up to tell you all about the free training and opportunities available, such as help to create your own podcasts, or radio shows! We will invite you to make a quick Station ID at our pop-up recording set up!

Open Cypher

As part of Xplore Hart House, we're putting a shining light on Hip-Hop. We're calling all aspiring music producers, beatmakers, emcees, poets, and freestyle enthusiasts! Experience the ultimate beatmaking and freestyle session at Xplore Hart House: Open Cypher. Unlock your inner musical genius and be part of a vibrant community of like-minded individuals, eager to create, collaborate, and inspire! 

What you can expect: (all equipment will be provided — just drop-in) 

Beatmaking: Harness the power of your imagination as you craft mind-blowing beats. Whether you're a seasoned producer or a novice, this is your chance to showcase your skills and learn from and with others in the Hart House Hip Hop Education, Lyricists' Lounge, and Producers' Circle Communities. 

Freestyle and Lyricism: Whether you've got rhymes on paper in your head or just want to be a part of the vibe, you've got the opportunity to step into the spotlight or join in the cypher with fellow wordsmiths, and witness the magic of spontaneous creativity. 

Networking & Community: Connect with fellow music enthusiasts, exchange ideas, and build community. Our welcoming community thrives on diversity, fostering an environment that embraces every genre, style, and background. 

Feedback and Guidance: Get invaluable insights from our facilitators and students who are eager to share their knowledge and help you refine your craft. Joining us will be Hip Hop Community Connector, Marcus Singleton (aka iomos marad), Nidhil Vohra, Dylan Johnson (aka Caijo), and Naseha Chowdhury. 

Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of beats and freestyles.

Scavenger Hunt

11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Looking for an interactive experience to get to know Hart House? Look no further! Shake up your orientation this year and join us for an in-person scavenger hunt using an online platform. Our scavenger hunt missions will help you get to know Hart House and the surrounding area, build community and of course… have fun! Let's go on a scavenger hunt!!

How to Play: 1. Download the Goosechase iOS or Android app. 2. Choose to participate as a guest, or register for a personal account with a username & password of your choice. 3. Search for and select the 2023 Xplore Hart House Experience, or search for join code LKBGE1. 4. Follow the prompts to select or create your player profile.

*Please note there is a limit on the number of users in the experience. If the game is full, please join another activity and join us later.

Sun Printing Station

Visit the Hart House Camera Club's Sun Printing Station to engage in the historical art of cyanotype! Bathed in sunlight, this station merges creativity with science, enabling participants to craft striking blue and white prints. Using sunlight, treated paper, and objects or negatives, you will engage in a hands-on process where you arrange your compositions to create one-of-a-kind cyanotype prints. The Sun Printing Station will offer insights into photography's roots while fostering your artistic expression and creativity!

Hart House Theatre Games!

11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Pop on by the Hart House Theatre Bean Bag Toss and learn about everything the Theatre has to offer. Chat with staff and hear how you can get involved with everything at Hart House Theatre while celebrating the end of summer with this classic lawn game. The Theatre has everything from dancing to acting, playwriting and panels, and you can be a part of it all.

Toss a bean bag and win a prize! Bonus throws will be awarded if you are brave enough to belt out a theatrical tune or quote your favourite Shakespeare.

Work at Hart House!

11:00am – 3:30pm

Work at Hart House and gain valuable real-world experience and transferable skills that will help build your resume and your community. Positions are available across Hart House, so be sure to come through and connect with our Hart House Human Resources team to find out more.
