Presented in partnership with the Centre for International Experience, the Multi-Faith Centre and Hart House for an afternoon of fun and Hip Hop.
Join Us
During the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop culture, Hart House, Centre for International Experience, and the Multi-Faith Centre invite you to a unique end of year celebration inspired by the humble beginnings of Hip Hop. In 1973 Clive "DJ Kool Herc" Campbell and his sister Cindy Campbell hosted the definitive block party – signified by a large sound system, food, creative expression, and community. "The jam" - as they used to call early Hip Hop community parties - is where the origin story of Hip Hop first began. Fast forward to today and Hip Hop is now the world’s largest commodity, spanning the art forms of DJing, emceeing, grafitti, breakdancing and Hip Hop dance, as well as the arenas of fashion, language, sport, and business and entrepreneurship.
Whether you’re into Hip Hop culture's early years, a 90’s era champion or a fan of current Hip Hop culture, you’ll enjoy the sounds of Hip Hop and all its musical off-shoots courtesy of our event's DJ.
In addition to enjoying Hip Hop sounds and food with friends and friends to be, attendees can take part in a number of activities including hourly activations (as in the case of dance performances, hip hop trivia, and a basketball skills challenge), and activities offered throughout the event (which include making Hip Hop medallions, getting your nails done or a henna tattoo, and having your image drawn among other activities).

Jones Amare Au-Duke
Artist
Jones Amare Au-Duke is an athlete, a visual artist, a son, a brother, but most importantly, a loyal creative. It takes a genuine commitment to being an artist, which is why Jones Au Duke differs from your average creative person. Jones Au Duke is a local Toronto artist, born and raised in Scarborough. His first step into the art scene began very young but was far from easy. With long nights and days, Jones Au Duke continued to polish his technique. Without his father Jeff ‘Spade’ Duke by his side teaching him how to find his voice creatively, Jones wouldn’t be where he is artistically today. Through the typical
trials and tribulations of being an artist, Jones Au Duke found that his calling to art wasn’t mundane, and before he knew it, he started his journey to greatness. At a rapid rate, Jones built the exhilarating graphic novel “REN” from scratch alongside his few friends. Shortly after, he became one of The Fourth Project’s co-founders - an artistic collective focusing on supporting local and international high-priority communities. His fresh perspective on art and his 80s retro approach keeps Jones’ art demographically flexible while still being insightful and different. After receiving several awards, Jones found peace and contentment in doing art for the rest of his life. With the commitment, technique and personality that Jones Au Duke possesses, he will one day be a name to remember. -
