Overview
Remapping the Campus focuses on contemporary artworks by Indigenous artists on the St. George Campus. Each stop on this walk is an opportunity to reflect and learn about these artworks through conversation and meaning making led by artists, Indigenous leaders, and curators, remapping the campus through Indigenous points of reference. We will visit Simcoe Hall to see acknowledging the land, featuring artworks by Rebecca Belmore, Katherine Takpannie, Catherine Blackburn, Lori Blondeau, Dana Claxton, Caroline Monnet and Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory with Jamie Griffiths. We will have a guided walk-through of Pizandawatc / The One Who Listens / Celui qui écoute Caroline Monnet's exhibition in the Art Museum. Additionally, we will visit the in-progress Ziibiing Indigenous Landscape project, outside of Hart House.
Lunch will be provided after the walk for conversation and reflection. Space is limited to 15.

Mike Ormsby a.k.a. W’ DAE B' WAE
Artist
Mike Ormsby is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist, his late mother's family is from Curve Lake First Nation. He signs his work as W’ DAE B' WAE, his Anishinaabe name meaning "he or she is telling the truth, is right, is correct, is accurate." Mike hopes his art speaks to that truth, telling the stories of the Anishinaabe, sharing the culture and traditions. But the truth in his art may also be different for others. What Mike sees in his art may differ from what others see; his art may speak to them differently. Art is healing, a window into the soul; a way to better understand ourselves and each other. To know where one is going, one must know when one has come from.
