Something cool is about to go down at Hart House. Imagine this - a group of music lovers coming together to jam out in a way that goes beyond regular tunes. It's not just about playing notes - it's about creating something fresh, something that happens in the moment.

We're organizing a series of music jam sessions where we're throwing out the rulebook and embracing improvisation. It's like a musical adventure where each note played is like a sentence in a conversation, and everyone is part of the story.

But there's a twist! We're also big on the "art of listening." We believe that to be a good musician, you have to be an awesome listener. It's not just about hearing the music, it's about picking up on the little details and vibes from your fellow musicians. It's like a musical language where everyone speaks and listens at the same time.

So, we're inviting all music enthusiasts – whether you're a pro or just starting out – to join us at Hart House for a laid-back, super fun jam session. It's not just about playing instruments, it's about connecting through the magic of music. So, grab your instrument, bring your friends, and let's create some sweet sounds together.

We can't wait to see you there!

Note: Please no electric, digital and large percussion instruments including large drum sets. Please bring dampening for large brass instruments.

Masoud Riyazati
Artist

Meet Masoud, an artist with over a decade of experience in documentary work and portrait photography. He is also an award-winning film maker and an experienced film editor. As part of his photography-based residency, he will conduct workshops on advances in the development of photographic practices. Additionally, his images, which offer fresh and distinctive insights on having recently navigated a new culture, will be showcased in April. Through an innovative darkroom printing technique called “uneven development,” Masoud will create an unforgettable series of black-and-white photographs that depict the feelings of migrants while adjusting to their new lives ‒ their journey, their losses and successes, their grief and happiness. Notably, his photograph, “Terror,” won the K.B. Jackson Award in Portraiture in the Hart House Camera Club’s 97th Exhibition in 2019.
Masoud Riyazati is a multidisciplinary artist who draws inspiration from his life journey and brings lived experiences into his photography, films, and music. He was born in Iran and moved to Canada in his late twenties. Later, he applied to the University of Toronto, where he is finishing his Anthropology and Visual Arts degrees. Throughout his studies, he has been active in the art community, producing award-winning photography and experimental film.
In 2019, Masoud travelled to Turkey to interview refugee families struggling to care for their ill children as part of a campaign to amplify their voices. He is currently a Hart House Artist in Residency, working on a photo essay exploring the emotional effects of migration and finding one's place in the world.

How to register online?

If you have not already done so, please create/update your account by following the applicable steps below: 

New Accounts

Please note: this process should only be used by adult members. To register children/dependents, please view the information in the section titled ‘Adding dependents to your account’.

Visit Music Jam Sessions
Click the “Sign up” link located in the top right corner of the page.
Complete the form, making sure all information is accurate. For registrants outside of North America, please DO NOT enter a mailing address when you are completing the New user account form. This field is not mandatory. You will not be able to complete registration with a mailing address that is outside of North America.
Once you’ve completed the form, click the blue ‘Register’ button at the bottom of the page. 
You will receive an e-mail with instructions on completing your account activation.

Registering for programs

Once you have successfully created your account, you can register for programs/events.

Visit Music Jam Sessions
Locate the program you are interested in registering for and click the ‘Register’ button. 
(If no ‘Register’ button appears, the class may be full or the registration period may not have started. Look for text that explains the status of the program.) 
If you are registering for a child and youth program, read and accept the Informed Consent document. You will also be required to provide or verify emergency contact information. 
Some programs may have additional prompts or questions during the registration process. Please read these carefully and provide requested information. 
You will be taken to a secure external site to provide your payment information, if there is a cost associated with the event/program. 
Once you have successfully provided your payment details, you will receive a receipt by e-mail, as well as confirmation of registration that provides you with the details of your program(s).

Adding dependents to your account

Visit  Music Jam Sessions
Log in to your account. For more information on creating or setting up your account, see the sections above.
Click your username, which should appear in the top right corner of the screen once you have successfully logged in.
Click the Profile link that appears. Your profile will display, showing your contact information.
Click the blue ‘Add Family’ button at the bottom of the Personal Information screen.
Complete the form, ensuring that your dependent’s information is accurate. For child/youth dependents, an accurate birth date is mandatory.
Click the blue ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the form.
Repeat steps 5–7 for additional dependents.
