The Hart House A/V Tech Mentorship Program provides youth the opportunity to gain practical experience with different careers in the audio/visual field while earning a stipend (payment) for their commitment. Audio-Visual (AV) technicians set up, operate, and maintain multimedia equipment for events.
The A/V Tech Mentorship Program aims to:
Host 8 hours of workshop theory learning
Host 1-2 shadow shifts where youth can experience an event set-up from start to finish
Offer career exploration, and provide sector-relevant knowledge, skills, and experience
Provide a barrier-free experience for participants.
Provide mentorship under the guidance of an experienced mentor in the field.

Who can apply?
Youth ages 16-18 who identify with one or more of the following groups are strongly encouraged to apply: Indigenous youth, Black youth, Racialized youth, Queer youth, Muslim youth who identify as women, Non-binary and Trans youth.

When will this take place?
Sessions are held in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 2 and Thursday, August 4. We will also be providing shadow shifts to work alongside our staff team during an event. Details on these shadow shifts will be provided in August.

Where will the sessions take place?
Sessions will be hosted in-person at Hart House located on the downtown University of Toronto Campus.

What is the commitment?
A/V Tech Mentees are expected to commit to and complete approximately 16 apprenticeship hours. This includes content theory through workshops and shadowing shifts to put theory into practice.
Mentees will be expected to complete all necessary accompanying readings in the provided manual, post-program reflections, and surveys.
Mentees who complete the above commitments are eligible for entry into an AV Tech Operator position at Hart House.

What is the pay & hours?
Mentees will receive $250.00 as a one-time payment upon completion of the above commitments at the end of the program.

The application form will close on July 20, 2022.

A review of applications will take place starting on July 21, 2022. Selected candidates will be contacted shortly after.
