Tifa Wine leads this two-hour educational make-up tutorial that explores the history of drag and their orientation towards race, gender, and sexuality-justice struggles. Workshop participants will be introduced to a number of terms central to drag practice and ideas around drag's emergence as a response to oppressive politics; particularly focusing on the radical potentials of drag performance practice and how it is represented in the mainstream, particularly with reality shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race.
The workshop will also include a makeup tutorial where Tifa Wine walks participants through the basic foundations of drag makeup: 1. Foundation, 2. Highlight and contouring, 3. Eyes and lips.

Ryan Persadie
Ryan Persadie is an artist, educator, community organizer, and writer based in Toronto, Canada. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Women and Gender Studies at the Women and Gender Studies Institute at the University of Toronto. He also carries a MA in Ethnomusicology and Sexual Diversity Studies from the University of Toronto. His aesthetic and scholarly work interrogates the relationships and entanglements between queer Indo-Caribbean diasporas, Caribbean feminisms, Afro-Asian intimacies, legacies of indenture, where he particularly engages with performance, embodiment, erotics, and popular culture as critical archives for understanding queer Caribbean selfhoods in Toronto and New York City.
His writing can be found in the Stabroek News, A Colour Deep, Thaenpot, Gay City News, MUSICultures, the Middle Atlantic Review of Latin American Studies, the Canadian Theatre Review, and in forthcoming publications with the Caribbean Review of Gender Studies and the Journal of Indenture and Its Legacies. He also works with and organizes with multiple community groups including the Caribbean Equality Project, and Queeribbean Toronto. Outside of academia, he also works as a drag artist where he goes by the stage name of Tifa Wine.
Tifa Wine is a queer Indo-Trinidadian aunty living her life day-to-day in Toronto. Drawing on lessons passed down to her from soca and chutney music, and traditions such as Carnival, Tifa Wine uses her performance practice to center the experiences, voices, and histories of queer and trans Caribbean agitators and decolonial trouble-makers, often drawing upon the spirit of fearless and unruly Caribbean women who continue to remind us what mashin up de place can feel and look like.
