Overview
A panel discussion presented by Hart House Theatre, the U of T Festival of Dance and Only Human Dance Collective.
Ballet’s recorded history is that of a Euro-centric, aristocratic art form. It is, however, studied and performed by dance companies all over the world. Why, then, the inherent colour bias? Ballet has universal appeal as a mode of storytelling that reveals deep emotion, enchanting thoughts and everlasting moments. Why, then, the specific (fixed) look, body type, ethnicity and elitism?
Join us for a provoking and exciting conversation with young dancers and industry professionals around race, ethnicity and inclusion within ballet. In this discussion, we aim to spread awareness, diversity and unity within artforms and artistic practice.
