Overview
The Hart House Global Commons is an interdisciplinary space for students from the University of Toronto to engage in real-time dialogue with students who will be participating virtually from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, the University of Cape Town, South Africa, Sciences Po, France (Menton Campus), and Indiana University Bloomington, U.S.A.
Join us for an exciting opportunity to engage internationally and to share perspectives and lived experiences. The 2018-2019 Hart House Global Commons will connect students along with and a wide range of community partners and civil society actors in all locations to explore local and global questions and actions geared towards building better societies that reflect, uphold, and institutionalize the full equality of women.

Event Schedule
Winter Term Focus: Global
The second term of the Hart House Global Commons takes United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 as its starting point, focusing in on of Gender Equality with a global lens. Sessions will discuss how change is being made around the world, in terms of ‘achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls,’and will inquire into the relevance, meaning, and application of the SDG from the various positionalities, perspectives, and experiences in participating locations.
What has to happen legally, politically, and economically for true and lasting change to take effect, for gender equality to be achieved? How can solidarity and allyship be built and sustained? How is this work being done both locally and globally, and how can students from all locations contribute to those efforts?
