About Art Cohort
The Art Cohort program will take participants through an exploration of contemporary art in Toronto through field trips, studio visits, and guest chats with artists, curators, gallerists, and more. Through direct contact and hands-on opportunities, participants will learn about art-making, explore meaning-making through intersections between identity, power, personal/political collisions and choreographies, and connect to currents in the city, culture, space, time and land.
In partnership with the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Hart House Student Art Committee, Hart House presents an 8-week experiential learning opportunity at no cost for a group of 12 students to explore Toronto’s contemporary art spaces and community. The Art Cohort program goes beyond the typical art-viewing experience by engaging artists, curators, and art institutions in conversation, exploration, and exchange.
Program Goals
Experiential Learning: Students will interact with a diverse range of artists, curators, and organizations, gaining first-hand insights into the world of art and cultural production, and explore what inspires creatives to create, curate, and make meaning through art.
Art for Everyone: By meeting and interacting with various creatives, participants are reminded that art, while catalytic and transformative, is created by people — people who reflect on our shared spaces, each expressing their own experience and perspective. By engaging in various field trips, exercises, conversations, and adventures, students will develop a meaningful connection to the arts.
Have Fun: This program is designed for students to learn about and appreciate contemporary art while having fun. Our aim is to create enriching experiences that connect students to each other and cultural creators and art workers contributing to Toronto’s art scene.
