Audition Information

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for a workshop reading of flip flop, written by Sydney Scott and directed by Will Dao. As the winning submission of the 2024 U of T Hart House Theatre Playwriting Competition, a reading of flip flop will be presented on September 29 2024 at Hart House. This is a paid, non-union opportunity for actors (U of T students, non-U of T students, and non-students are welcome). The play will be workshopped throughout the rehearsal process, so actors should feel comfortable providing feedback and working with new drafts of the script.

The deadline to submit your audition via the form below is July 23 at 11:59 pm. Callbacks will be held in person on July 28 from 2-5 pm in the East Common Room of Hart House, on the first floor. For accessibility information, please visit Hart House’s Visitor Information page. If you’re invited for a callback, you’ll hear back from the creative team by July 25 at the latest.

Actors should be able to commit to 20 hours of rehearsal between September 15 - 28. You will be asked to indicate your availability within this timeframe on the audition form.

Actors must be available on September 29 between 5-10 pm for the final rehearsal and reading presentation.

Actors will receive a $500 honorarium which will be administered and paid out by the playwright.

Content Warning: depictions of adolescent sexuality, sexual assault against a child, sexual coercion between children, discussions of body hair and fluids, discussions of grief/trauma.

flip flop is meant to occur in a pool, with certain scenes encountered as an audio-play through individual headsets. In a full production, audiences would be able to remove their headphones during difficult subject matter, but this reading will not involve this level of tech or site-specificity. Audiences will be free to leave the space at their discretion.

We are seeking three adult actors to fill the roles “one part bitter”, “one part sweet” and “two parts savory/dad”.
