Hart House is Here and Open for You

Hart House is pleased to continue to offer students the essential services they need to enhance their university experience.

Welcome to Hart House

Hart House is a dynamic and inclusive centre for experiential education outside the classroom. Here, students from all three University of Toronto (U of T) campuses find welcoming and unique ways to connect with each other and the broader world through engagement with the arts, dialogue and wellness. Hart House offers something for everyone.

Effective September 6, the hours of operation are:

  • Monday to Friday: 7 am to 11 pm
  • Weekends: 9 am to 6 pm
  • Holidays: 11 am to 5 pm

Masks are no longer required to be worn in all indoor spaces of Hart House, including the Hart House Theatre, Hart House Fitness Centre, and the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at Hart House. Hart House strongly encourages the wearing of masks. Some community members may choose to continue to wear a mask. We ask everyone to respect others' decisions, comfort levels & health needs.

For up-to-date protocols on visiting U of T campuses, please see the Covid planning update on U of T website.

If you do not have a mask, one will be offered to you at the Information HUB or Fitness Information Desk. Please see U of T's latest statement on masks.

Pianos are Meant to be Played

We are pleased to continue to welcome students back to Hart House to fill the halls with their music. Drop in to play a piano in one of four locations within the building. Student players of all levels of training and ability are encouraged to lose themselves and revel in the act of making music.

U of T students interested in playing the piano may access the Hart House pianos by following the steps below:

  • Visit the Information Hub to see if one of the four pianos is available.
  • Students will have access to the Bickersteth Room, East Common Room, Music Room, and the South Sitting Room.
  • Play uninterrupted for up to 60 minutes. Drop in piano playing will end one hour before the building's closing time.

We ask students to comply within these guidelines. Those failing to abide by the guidelines may be asked by staff to vacate the room and return the keys before their booked session is completed.

Please be sure to bring along your photo ID when coming to access a piano.
