About

The Hart House Outdoor Leadership Program is a unique and exciting weekend adventure that brings together a small group of teens who are ready to learn and grow.

With activities such as team building, outdoor adventures at the Hart House Farm, skill development, and more, by the end of the weekend you’ll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and build confidence.

The program includes a full day at Hart House, on the University of Toronto's downtown St. George campus, followed by by a full day-trip to the Hart House Farm in Caledon the next day. Bus transportation from Hart House to the Farm will be provided.

The Outdoor Leadership Program offers exceptional, one-of-a-kind opportunities to:

  • • Gain leadership and teamwork skills in an interactive and challenging environment; 
  • • Develop valuable soft skills, including decision making, safety and risk management, time management and goal setting; 
  • • Make new friends and develop cross-cultural communication skills; 
  • • Enhance self-esteem and independence; and 
  • • Have an amazing outdoor experience!

Details

  • When?

    May 4 - 5, 2024. Prepare for full days, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

  • Where?

    Hart House and Hart House Farm (transportation provided).

  • Who?

    Youth who identify with one or more of the following groups are strongly encouraged to apply:

    • Indigenous youth
    • Black youth
    • Racialized youth
    • Queer youth
    • Muslim youth who identify as women
    • Non-binary and Trans youth
  • How?

    In order to participate, a parent or guardian must complete and agree to consent waivers for youth under the age of 18. Youth over 18 can complete their own.

The program allowed me to broaden my thinking and suggested a new take on leadership. I will remember having fun playing activities with the friends I made at the program, as well as developing strategies to figure out solutions to certain problems. The fun memories we made will definitely stick with me for the rest of my life!

Program details

Details on the exact start and end times will be provided closer to the program start date. Participants should anticipate full days with approximate start times of 9:00 am and end times of 6:00 pm. 

Saturday, May 4, 2024: Hart House, University of Toronto St George campus

Sunday, May 5, 2024: Hart House Farm in Caledon, Ontario. Bus transportation from Hart House to the Farm will be provided.

Commitment

Mentees are expected to commit to and complete approximately 16 learning hours over the two days.  Mentees will be expected to complete all necessary accompanying readings in the provided manual, post-program reflections, and surveys.

Mentees will receive $250.00 as a one-time payment upon completion of the above commitments at the end of the program.
