Overview
For some of us cooking is a way to drown out the current state of affairs and indulge in tummy goodness. Living through a pandemic, and social unrest is challenging. How do we find the time to get an affordable and healthy meal in, while navigating these uncertain times?
Join us for an interactive virtual session where we will navigate through tips and tricks on affordable meals. I hope you will embrace the knowledge, responsibility, and creativity that comes with cooking and share it with your communities.
In Preparation for the event:
- Participants are to bring three recipes to share and discuss with the group
- Recipes should include (one traditional meal, and two go-to meals)
- Show and Share: of the three recipes shared participants will be asked to come to the session with one prepared to show and share

Culinary Nutritionist and Food Inequality Advocate
Hi my name is Richard Blackwood. I am a community instigator, creator of dope things, food inequality advocate and cooking from scratch enthusiast. I currently work for Impact Kitchen as a Restaurant Manager and Community Ambassador.
My journey with food takes me back to bountiful Sunday dinners with my family. The ones where after we feast you would want to take a nap. My first experience in the kitchen was trying to cook my favorite dish, stew peas, which came out super salty. I did not cook off the salted pig tail long enough; my mom always laughs when she tells this story.
After having a life altering car accident, I turned to cooking to zone out and find peace; I found myself enjoying cooking off the fly and being more mindful of the food I eat. In 2015 I became a culinary nutritionist and also found my passion towards fighting against food inequality within marginalized communities.
