Join the Hart House Student Debates & Dialogue Committee for an insightful afternoon with Mark MacKinnon, senior international correspondent from The Globe and Mail. Mark has covered elections, wars, revolutions, and refugee crises all over the world, and now he’s bringing his incredible stories and insights to our campus.
Our moderators will dive into Mark’s field reporting on Ukraine, including the Russian invasion and the rescue of foreign nationals in Afghanistan. If interested, it is encouraged that you read the article here before the event. You'll also hear about Mark’s thrilling and sometimes dangerous experiences in field reporting and journalism, offering a behind-the-scenes look at international reporting. Finally, discover what students can do now as truth seekers and storytellers. Learn how to make an impact and change the international discourse as an individual, within a community, or as a student body.
At the end of the moderation, there will be a Q&A session where participants will have the opportunity to ask Mark questions about his career and his special release article on Ukraine.

Mark MacKinnon is a senior international correspondent who has been covering international affairs and Canada’s role in the world since the September 11, 2001 attacks. Since then, he has reported on elections and wars, revolutions and refugee crises in all corners of the world. One of Canada’s most decorated foreign correspondents, Mark was nominated for his eighth award in 2023 for his coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He now divides his time between London and Kyiv.
