Lace up your skates and join us at the Varsity Arena for our second annual Hip Hop Family Skate Day! Come out and show off your skating skills, or take some tips from our special guests, professional figure skaters Chloe Panetta and Kieran Thrasher. After the duo dazzle us with a captivating routine, we’ll join them on the ice for our Hip Hop skate party. Skate along to the sounds of the best in Hip Hop, R&B and Afro Beats by none other than DJ Mel Boogie!
Safety
- In order for children to be allowed on the ice they must be capable of standing in their skates - adults may assist them with skating.
- One adult may supervise up to three children for Family Skate.
- Adults must wear skates and be on the ice with their children at all times.
- Adults must provide skates and helmets for children, and free skate and helmet rentals are available for adults.
Students may attend free of charge and bring up to 3 children.
Any adult who is a non-student or not a member of the Varsity Arena facility can purchase either a family day pass or day pass for only $19.98 plus HST. Adult skate rentals will be free for all registered attendees.
CSA-approved hockey helmets are mandatory for people 17 and under and strongly recommended for beginner adults.
Strollers cannot be brought into the arena but may be left outside. As the venue is concrete with many stairs, please supervise younger children carefully and remain within arm’s reach at all times for safety.

DJ Mel Boogie
Hailing from Toronto, DJ MelBoogie is one of the country's best-known female DJs. For over 25 years, her roots have been deeply embedded in radio, formerly at CHRY 105.5FM, where she set the primetime morning airwaves on fire for 6 years, followed by over a decade at CKLN 88.1FM, as the DJ/Co-Host of Droppin’ Dimez Radio, Canada’s ONLY All Female Hip Hop Show. She’s currently an on-air host and DJ on Toronto’s VIBE105FM.

Chloe Panetta
Chloe Panetta and Kieran Thrasher are Jr national team members who train in Oakville, Ontario. Chloe and Kieran have been skating together for nearly 2 years. They placed 3rd at the JSU junior grand prix of Ostrava in Czech Republic in 2022 and placed 7th at the union worlds last year. Kieran was a AAA hockey player for most of his life and decided during the pandemic to take pairs and skating more seriously. The transition from hockey to full time figure skating with a partner was one of their most challenging steps to overcome. Chloe is from Montreal, Quebec.

Kieran Thrasher
Chloe Panetta and Kieran Thrasher are Jr national team members who train in Oakville, Ontario. Chloe and Kieran have been skating together for nearly 2 years.
