Hart House Photography Exhibition: 100 Years of Campus Life

Our retrospective, curated archival display of over 20 Hart House Camera Club member photos with the theme of “Campus Life”

Yousuf Karsh is often referred to as the greatest portrait photographer of the 20th century.

Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera.

Yousuf Karsh

Yousuf Karsh had a unique history with Hart House; he was a judge at the annual Camera Club Salon in 1953-54 where he introduced the Karsh Trophy for the best photograph of campus life taken at the University of Toronto. In honour of its centennial year, Hart House presented a special exhibit of Karsh-worthy pieces featuring a retrospective display of photos taken by members of the Hart House Camera Club throughout the years plus a number of award-winning contemporary images depicting modern campus-life.
