About
The Hart House Book Sale Drop-in is an opportunity for all interested participants to explore their passion for reading and interact with like-minded individuals in an event that provides access to literature from a variety of perspectives and movements. Participants will have a chance to take a look at used books from the Hart House catalogue and purchase them at respectable rates. As this is a drop-in event, attendees can arrive and leave at any time the sale is open.
Books from a multitude of mediums, time periods, and genres will be available for sale. To support student interest in reading, we are also collaborating with the Hart House Ambassadors who will host a water colour bookmark session. You can go home with both a new book and a bookmark!
In collaboration with the Restorative Book Club from the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre and with respect to SDGO Queer Orientation Week, the event emphasizes voices from marginalized communities, such as poetry and novels from the LGBTQ+ community. There will be a QR code near the checkout table that provides access to the Restorative Book Club’s resources and literature recommendations, as well as suggestions on how to be more involved with the community.
We hope that attendees will leave the event with something to read, with our older books finding a new home. We also hope that they gain a greater understanding and appreciation of how marginalized identities are expressed through literature.
