About this class

Street photography typically refers to candid images of real, unposed moments within an urban setting. The most effective street photos capture intriguing or harmonious compositions of people interacting with each other and their environments. Street photography is often ambiguous, letting the viewer complete the story or respond emotionally. Through the use of light, composition, and eye-pleasing elements, street photography is a visual form of poetry.

In this presentation, David Williams will use his own photos to describe the elements that make a good street photograph, including the importance of a strong subject and interesting composition. He’ll also discuss practicalities such as camera settings and lens choice, the legalities and ethics of photographing people in public spaces, as well as the challenges one must overcome to become a good street photographer.

Following the presentation and Q&A session, participants will walk to Kensington Market to put what they’ve learned into practice with the help of experienced walk leaders.
