My time at U of T has been profoundly enriched by the leadership opportunities I had at Hart House, and my hope is to champion similar opportunities for fellow students.

They have demonstrated a commitment to serving others and to ensuring that Hart House continues to be a more engaging and welcoming community for everyone.

We proudly continue this tradition of cultivating a space for exceptional student engagement by awarding these efforts with the Audrey Hozack Student Leadership Award
and the Judi Schwartz Memorial Scholarship.

Audrey Hozack Student Leadership Award

Audrey Hozack was the first woman to serve in a senior management role at Hart House. She retired as Assistant Warden after 39 years of service. This award in her name recognizes students who have excelled in showing leadership at Hart House and, particularly, those students who have enhanced participation and engagement for communities who have been traditionally underrepresented in our space and our programming.

Judi Schwartz Memorial Scholarship

Judi Schwartz was the founding curator and director of the Justina M Barnicke Gallery at Hart House. She was a 32-year Hart House employee and an advocate for student participation in the visual arts. This scholarship recognizes the achievements and contributions of students involved with student-based programming and engagement at Hart House, reflecting Judi’s lifelong belief in the wisdom of student leadership.
