Film & Photography Policy

Commercial photography, videos and film shoots are not permitted anywhere in or near Hart House without advance written permission from Hart House and Campus Events.

Rooms used as a backdrop for commercial photo shoots, for television or for film shoots will be subject to room rental fee(s), staffing charges and are subject to the fee schedule established by the Film Liaison Office through Campus Events. Invasive or dangerous set-ups will not be permitted. Special insurance may be required. During peak periods of the academic year or times when Hart House is hosting a high volume of events, Hart House may not be able to accept commercial filming requests. To begin the process of inquiry about a commercial shoot at Hart House, please contact the Meeting and Events Office.

Secure Areas

No photography is permitted in areas that have security technology, including the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery and the Range, however artists may take pictures of their installed work in the Gallery with the permission of the exhibit curator. No photography is permitted in staff areas.

Fitness Centre

No photography is permitted in the Fitness Centre without the written permission of the Manager of Wellness and Recreation. Cameras in cell phones must not be used in Athletics areas.

Theatre

No photography is permitted in the Theatre, except with the written permission of the Theatre's General Manager. Permission will only normally be granted to persons involved in the mounting of shows, before the show opens or to members of the media.

Weddings and Personal Photography

If you would like to take photos within Hart House for your engagement, wedding, or other milestone event, please review our personal photo request document and contact the Meeting and Event Services team to discuss booking. Please note that requests for photography will only be accepted within 21-30 days of the requested date (requests made outside this cannot be confirmed).

Media

Any person from the media, including University media, who wants to use Hart House as a photography location for a photograph for a story should contact Meeting and Event Services.
