Maria Liu Lang | Capoeira
“Professora” Maria Liu Lang has been a student of capoeira for over seventeen years, and a teacher for over twelve years. She trained in several capoeira styles before travelling to Brazil in 2004 and meeting her current capoeira master, Mestre Nenel, the son of the revered Mestre Bimba. In 2010, Lang was made an official teacher of the “Filhos de Bimba Capoeira School”. She now runs classes at several locations in Toronto and continues to do community-building work through capoeira and other Afro-Bahian cultural expressions.
Ronald Désormeaux | Judo
Ronald began judo practice at the age of 15 and has competed throughout Canada and the world, winning titles and international championships. In 1969, was awarded the Jean Charles Daoust trophy for outstanding French Canadian Athlete for the Ontario/Québec region. Throughout his 57-year career, he has owned and operated dojos throughout Canada from Quebec to BC, served on national judo associations, and has published numerous articles and manuals on judo technique. He holds degrees in physical education and public administration, is a level three National Coaching certificate holder and is a Godan, fifth-degree black belt. He teaches instructional judo seminars in advanced classes at Hart House.
Maria Prieto | Taekwondo
Taekwondo Master Maria Prieto has a career in TKD that spans 21 years. As a member of the Ontario Team from 1994 to 1996, she has fought some of the best female contenders on a National level. Her passion for TKD and interest in kinesiology has led to a career in holistic therapy as a Shiatsu Therapist, Hot Stone Practitioner, Aromatherapy Practitioner and an Aquatic Rehab Specialist.
As a part-time fitness instructor at Hart House, she teaches Cardio Kick, ABT’S, Yoga, Pilates and Cycle Fit classes.
