Writing Theatre Reviews - 7590

Description: Traditional theatre coverage is shrinking through the print and broadcast media. Yet theatre productions are springing up all over. Reliable critical voices are needed more than ever.

This workshop is for critics, reviewers, bloggers, writers and theatre enthusiasts and will fill the void.

Day 1 (Feb 5) will cover the nuts bolts and gory bits of writing a review. What is the difference between a reviewer and a critic? How much of the story do I tell to tantalize the reader to finish the review and buy a ticket to the play. The dos and don'ts of a review.

Students are then expected to attend at least one night of the U of T Drama Festival, February 8, 9, or 10 after which they should write a review of at least one of the plays.

Day 2 (Feb 12) will be a discussion of the plays you saw and the reviews you wrote. Instructor: Lynn Slotkin.

The deadline to withdraw from this 2 day class is 5 pm on February 1st. A $7 withdrawal fee applies.
