Beginning September 29, 2016, Hart House will be participating in The World Remembers, a unique visual commemoration of those who lost their lives in WWI.
Details: For 44 days, Hart House will display the 597,889 names of soldiers killed in 1916. Each name represents a man or woman from Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Slovenia or the former British Indian Army. Behind each name is a family and a history. The World Remembers honors all those who were lost from nations on both sides of the conflict.
Since 1918, millions of families have immigrated to Canada and more than half of Toronto’s population was born outside of Canada, each bringing with them their own memories of home and country. Our individual pasts are now our shared history. And, by honoring our past, we may also ensure our future.
When: Sept. 29–Nov. 10, 2016
Where: Arbor Room, Hart House
