Brush Up Your Shakespeare!
Got a Free Sunday? Join us for a musical afternoon in the majestic Great Hall!
Details: Join us for an afternoon of opera classics by the gifted students at the University of Toronto. University of Toronto Opera is a unique training ground in Canada. With a class (or ‘cast’) of around 20 singers, repetiteur and stage diector, UofT Opera operates more like a company-based opera house than a traditional university music department. Limited admission ensures that every student benefits from the exceptional training offered by our renowned faculty.
In 2014/15, guest instructors Stuart Hamilton, Ben Malensek, Rachel Andrist, Catherine Wyn-Rogers and Ben Heppner add generously to the training offered by permanent faculty, which includes Wendy Nielsen, Russell Braun, Daniel Taylor, Sandra Horst, Stephen Philcox, and Michael Albano. A busy season of five staged productions, concerts and recitals allows every student to put their continually-honed skills to the test. For almost 70 years University of Toronto Opera has trained many of Canada’s pre-eminent artists, including Jon Vickers, Teresa Stratas, Ben Heppner, John Fanning, Adrianne Pieczonka, Sally Dibblee, Joel Ivany and Russell Braun, to name a few.
Performers for this concert include all 18 UofT Opera students as well as pianists Sandra Horst and Andrea Grant. Stage direction is by Michael Patrick Albano.
