Details: Shannon Graham is a saxophonist/violist/vocalist/composer who has been introducing her inventive and whimsical musical voice to the Toronto music scene. Her new project “Shannon Graham and the Storytellers” features her own compositions that bridge the realms of improvised and composed music. Merging the styles of large jazz ensemble, modern chamber music, and pop music with an eclectic instrumentation of voice, strings, saxophone, brass, and jazz rhythm section, her pieces are constantly reaching for new textures, ranges of emotion, and musical surprises and humour that provoke and delight the listener. Shannon is a passionate player and quirky performer whose energy runs through her band. Her compositions are often programmatic in nature, telling stories and reflections of human experience to communicate and connect people through music, coining a new genre of “narrative composition”. The Storytellers will be releasing their debut CD in December 2012.
