Details: Embraced as TD Sunfest’s crowd favourite for 18 years in a row, LAZO (aka Mr. Sunfest) exudes a feel-good vibe with his unique combination of roots reggae ‘riddims’, conscious lyrics and an uncanny ability to connect with audiences. Lazo’s numerous honours from industry peers include Top Reggae Performer of the Year at the internationally recognized Canadian Reggae Music Awards and a Juno Award for his CD “Heart and Soul”. In 2010, LAZO toured throughout the United States and South America as a member of the world-renowned Wailers (Bob Marley’s original backup band), delighting Bob Marley fans – and reggae lovers – with his exhilarating performances. His most recent and seventh CD, “Passin Thru” (Y.T. Records, 2011) pays tribute to his special relationship with Sunfest with an upbeat composition celebrating the vision of the festival’s organizers.

Toronto is home to a vibrant and robust music scene and the Stages series is a proud supporter of Toronto’s talent both on and off campus. Showcasing folk, roots, rock, singer-songwriter, urban, pop, reggae and alternative music Stages has worked with breakthrough artists such as Shad, Martina Sorbara of Dragonette, K-Os and David Myles to many up and coming performers as well as hidden gems. With reggae, classic rock and folk concerts as part of the mix, Stages celebrates the era of counter culture by paying tribute to music that is known for its social commentary.
