The University of Toronto Jazz Orchestra
with the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band
Details: The University of Toronto Jazz Orchestra is one of the many ensembles of the Jazz Studies Program. With standard big band instrumentation (five saxophones, four trombones, five trumpets, bass, piano, drums and guitar) it performs a wide variety of music from jazz standards from the 1930s and 40s to music of U of T students and faculty, as well as works by internationally known composers and arrangers. Conducted by Gordon Foote since the fall of 2012, each semester the ensemble performs at various venues including around campus and at local high schools.

The JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band is a dynamic ensemble that features outstanding middle and secondary school students performing classic and contemporary jazz at venues throughout Ontario. A free program for students from schools in the Greater Toronto Area, it provides these emerging artists with the opportunity to hone their musical skills and interact in a diverse, professional setting.
