The Barry Livingston Group brings together some of Canada’s finest and most innovative musicians, drawn from diverse cultures and musical styles.
Barry’s evocative compositions draw upon contemporary jazz and global music (South Indian, African) , including the influence of artists from the European “ECM” label, such as Keith Jarrett, Ralph Towner, and Pat Metheny. Joining Barry (pianist/composer) are Suba Sankaran (vocals), Colleen Allen (reeds), Kobi Hass (acoustic bass), and percussion. All are recognized leaders in their respective fields, and have collaborated together in different musical settings for many years. Barry Livingston is a composer, pianist, music educator, and journalist/broadcaster who has been working in Toronto and Vancouver for over 25 years. He has played with Jane Bunnett, and the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band. Barry has also attended the Banff Centre on a number of different occasions, where he has collaborated with Muhal Richard Abrams and Kenny Wheeler. He has a strong interest in therapeutic music and the music of different cultures.
