Details: The University of Toronto Jazz Orchestra is one of the many ensembles of the Jazz Studies Program. With standard big band instrumentation (5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 5 trumpets, bass, piano, drums and guitar) it performs a wide variety of music from jazz standards of the 1930’s and 40’s to music of U of T students and faculty, as well as works by internationally known composers and arrangers. Conducted by Gordon Foote since the fall of 2012, each semester the ensemble performs at various venues including on campus and at local high schools. The group is looking forward to performing with legendary saxophonist Dave Liebman and recording a CD of original music by jazz faculty member, saxophonist Mike Murley in April, 2013.
