Haitian Refugees in Canada
Join the Hart House Social Justice Committee for a discussion exploring the ways in which anti-black racism, immigration laws, and border imperialism have worked together to target and expel black migrants in Canada, with a focus on the past and present experiences of Haitian migrants in North America.
Our special guests include scholars, lawyers and activists that will discuss the particularities of the case and advocacy work they do for clients; explore the historical connections between anti-blackness, border regulation and the treatment of Haitian migrants; and unpack the ways in which detention and deportation breaks down black families and communities.
When: Thurs., March 29, 2018, 6-9 pm
Where: East Common Room, Hart House
Cost: Free / Register online
This event is presented in collaboration with the Caribbean Solidarity Network.
