Board Games & Billiards

Grab some friends or a date of your choice and let the games begin!

Hart House has a small, but growing, collection of board games available for your use. Sign games out at the Hub and head over to the Reading Room or downstairs to the Arbor Room and set up at a table. Got some dusty old games sitting at home? Why not donate them and let everyone play.

If you prefer 8-ball over Yahtzee, sign out pool cues and balls and head up to the 3rd floor billiards table.

Board Game Selection

The objective is to checkmate the king, where the king is in check by a piece and it cannot block the check, move to another square, or capture the piece checking the king.

Be the first team to reach the last space on the board. To achieve this a player must guess the word or phrase being drawn by their partner, or if the player lands on an “all play” square, one player from each team attempts to illustrate the same concept simultaneously, with the two teams racing to guess first.

A word game in which two to four players score points by forming words from individual lettered tiles on a gameboard marked with a 15-by-15 grid.

“What do these three things have in common?” Players try to guess the “common bond” between the three clues.

Trivial Pursuit
Progress is determined by a player’s ability to answer general knowledge and popular culture questions.

Urban Myth
A thrilling and fun new pop culture board game about what you know, what you thought you knew and what you have heard as gospel truth from a trusted friend.

How to Sign Out Games

Show us your T-Card.

Come to the Hub Information Desk on the 1rstfloor Floor and present your T-card or Hart House membership card. We will hold onto it until you return the game. For billiards, we require a $10 per cue deposit, which will be refunded when the cues are returned (in one piece).

Take out as many games as you want.

Seriously, we only have about six right now so go crazy. We hope to get more soon. Donate your old games—your parents will thank you!

Find a place to play.

You’ll want to cheer a little when you beat the pants off everyone, so choose a public room where you can talk and relax. Probably not the Library or the Warden’s Office. Try the Reading Room, Map Room, and Arbor Room for board games and the Billiards Table is on the 3rd floor.

Play for as long as you like.

We do ask that the games stay inside Hart House, and if anyone is waiting, that play be limited to one hour from the time of sign-out both for a board game and for the billiards table.Board games are offered on a first come, first served basis, but you may reserve the billiards table in person at the Hub or by calling 416.978.2452. Reservations may be made up to one day ahead between 7 am and 11 pm.

Please report any damage or missing pieces to the Hub staff. We ask that no food or drink be taken into the billiards room.
