Layne Coleman, Clarence

 

Layne ColemanLayne has spent a lifetime as an actor, playwright, director and producer in the world of Canadian theatre in a career that has played out on three continents. His accomplishments in Canadian theatre are legendary; he has been a new play creator in the Canadian theatre community for over three decades. He was a long-time Artistic Director of Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto, Canada’s oldest alternative theatre, which has produced over five hundred new Canadian plays during its decades of existence.

 

Layne was a resident screenwriter at the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto shortly after its founding by director Norman Jewison. He received the Rita Davies Award from the Toronto Arts Council for contributions to the arts in Toronto, as well as the George Luscombe Award for mentoring awarded by TAPA. He was nominated for a National Magazine Award for his non-fiction piece entitled Oasis of Hope for the Walrus magazine, which he then adapted into a play; it was nominated for a Best New Play Dora award in Toronto after its premiere. Upon leaving Theatre Passe Muraille Layne was presented with The Silver Ticket Award for lifetime achievement by the Toronto Alliance For The Performing Arts. He is currently writing a non-fiction book entitled This Will Change Everything about male crisis in middle age, as well as working on a new screenplay with Bill Hominuke.The Shape of Rex marks Layne’s film debut as co-writer/director/producer.

About: Lindsey Middleton hails from the teeny town of Ridgeway, Ontario! She recently graduated from the University of Toronto Mississauga, in the Theatre and Drama Studies program in collaboration with Sheridan College. Lindsey is most proud of co-founding Well Fought Theatre Company with her class and co-creating their first production, December 1917: The Halifax Explosion that went on tour to Halifax. Lindsey’s other greatest achievement is being an actor and associate producer in the internationally award winning, Toronto based web series Out With Dad, which has brought so much happiness to her life. About: Kyle hails from Calgary, Alberta and now calls Toronto home. He is a graduate of the Ryerson Theatre School. He is thrilled to be making his debut on the storied Hart House stage and to be working with such a wonderful group of artists. Kyle is a founding member of the Phantasmagoria Collective, with whom he recently presented the acclaimed Canadian Premiere of Tender Napalm, by Philip Ridley, at SummerWorks. About: Tim has studied and performed mask, commedia, clown and vaudeville. He has studied and performed with Second City, the George Brown Theatre School and the International School for Comedic Acting in Italy. Tim received the Tim Sims award for comedy (George Brown Theatre School), he is a Canadian Comedy Award nominee and a two-time Dora Nominee (Twelfth Night with The Classical Theatre Project). NOW! Magazine included Tim as one of Toronto’s Top Ten Theatre Artists in 2012. He has developed new works for 4th Line Theatre, Theatre Kairos, Firstdraft Theatre, Foundry theatre, Red One Theatre and The Company Theatre.
